Firsts: Chanel Taboo

Firsts??

Yes! This is my first Chanel nail polish!

While my fingers are still recovering from that crazy bout of eczema that inflicted them with cuts every other day (seriously, I looked like a suicidal kid, what's with all the many tiny cuts), they are just about well enough to put on some nail polish.

And of course, I chose to honour this occasion with my first ever Chanel nail polish, Taboo.

If you follow me on Instagram (@whimsicalperfection), you would have seen pictures of Taboo. Chanel Taboo.

Don't you love all the details! Pretty packaging, ribbons, good customer service, well done Chanel SG!

Taboo is one of those Limited Edition polishes that will bring you swooning and rushing to purchase a bottle. I'm guessing it will be as highly sought after as Paradoxical, Nouvelle Rouge etc.

In the bottle, Taboo looks like a galaxy of stars - vampy purple with red dust, and blue sparkles. On the nails, the 'red dust' doesn't appear as strongly, becoming slightly more duochrome in feel. The blue and purple sparkles are what stand out in this colour, making you stare at your nails for the longest time.

This is what I imagined to be OPI's Russian Navy + OPI's Every Month is Oktoberfest offspring. In fact, I might get started on the attempt to franken a similar colour, update you all soon!

As someone new to Chanel polishes, the formula is thankfully worthy of the price tag. The polish flowed smoothly, and one coat is actually enough for opacity. Nonetheless, I went for two for the above swatches. It's not as shiny as I hope it would be, but nothing a top coat cannot resolve. It dried really quickly too, so skip the quick-drying top coat for this!

All in all, I think this is just about enough to justify the SGD38 price tag. It's an absolute stunner, especially in real life. But, if you're feeling the pinch and/or not willing to splurge on this, I'm willing to bet that not too long from now, a mainstream brand would dupe this shade, much like how they tried with Paradoxical.
