A-England haul and swatches!

Hello!

Some time back, A-England had a 50% sale on their Mythical collection. They were originally priced at £9 a bottle, which sounds a little expensive. With 50% off, this brought down the cost to £4.50 a bottle, or about SGD9.00 a bottle with free international shipping.

The Mythical collection:
The Mythical collection was influenced by enchanting English myths. The theme and concept behind the collection is lovely, and make the polishes rather collectable.

Swatches:
I purchased 3 colours, namely Galahad, Tristam and Lady of the Lake. And to tell you frankly, I'm not feeling all the hype I've heard about A-England.

Galahad is a muted blue green. It covers well, and needed only 2 coats for creamy opacity.

I've always liked green polishes, and while this is a unique green in my stash, it's definitely a colour that has been replicated across various brands. The saving grace is the good formula, and the 50% discount. Without the sale, I would say go ahead and purchase a cheaper dupe from other brands.

Tristam was the one that got me really excited. And, disappointed when I finally had the chance to wear it.

I was expecting a deep, royal blue with a obvious holographic effect. The final result is sort of an over-compromise, neither a breath-taking deep blue, nor a spectacularly pretty holo. In fact, the holo effect is non-existent except under really bright lightings, appearing as flat silver flecks under all other lightings. I know, some bloggers have described them to be micro-glitters, but they look really flat. The formula was ok, but do remember to let each coat dry in between.

The final polish I purchased is Lady of the Lake, and finally, this is a purchase with no regrets.

The colour itself is stunning. A dark warm purple, the holo effect on this made it especially stunning. The holo effect is visible under normal lightings. Under warm or low lightings, the holo effect appears more as a copperish sheen. Purple and copper do go well together! The polish itself has a lot of depth to it, really gorgeous.

The only bad thing? The formula was the worst. It was starting to get really thick and goopy, and considering that I had only swatched the polish once before this full manicure, this really shouldn't be happening. Sure, a little thinner would resolve everything, but meh, I wish the quality matched the price tag. Or maybe, I got a dud.

All in all, I felt rather disappointed by the polishes. Perhaps it's all the positive reviews and stunning photos online, but I definitely felt a little cheated after swatching these 3 polishes. A-England does have nice bottles and a decent brush, so I guess if the polishes go on sale again, you might want to consider Lady of the Lake, or any other colour that catches your eye. Afterall, it's easy to appreciate the effort that went into this themed collection!
