Rave: NYX Slim Lip Pencils

This rave entry is well, about the NYX Slim Lip Pencils!

I first noticed them when Makeupgeek talked about them on her youtube channel. Then, Christine of Temptalia posted a review on them, and I was sold. They're cheap, creamy, and so much less drying than other lip pencils that I've tried. And oh, have I mentioned that there's a huge variety of colors available? Sounds perfect huh?

I purchased them at a flea market for $3 each, really cheap even compared to Stage when they had their sale. And much cheaper than MAC too. I don't own any MAC pencils (yet), so I can't compare. But, comparing NYX and Stage, I much prefer NYX because they're creamier and less drying. Stage has this really pretty colour (Pretty Peony), but it is so freaking drying, that I haven't worn it out yet. With some lip balm underneath, I happily wear NYX lip pencils alone (lightly filling in my lips), because the colors are pretty! Alternatively, you can color your lips and put some clear gloss on top.

And now, on to the swatches of colors I own (I remember I have more though, hmm)

Swatches

From Top to Bottom: Sand Pink, Rose, Peekaboo Neutral, Hot Red, Coral

From L to R: Sand Pink, Rose, Peekaboo Neutral, Hot Red, Coral

Verdict:

Pros:
- Cheap, even if purchased in Singapore
- Wide variety of shades within the range
- Creamy enough to wear alone, so long as you use a balm underneath

Cons:
- Difficult to order online (official swatches are kinda off), and not always readily available in Singapore
- I prefer twist-up pencils. Sharpening is just a tiny hassle though
- Can be drying over time. Best to use a balm underneath

Overall:

Definitely a good purchase! And a repurchase of the other shades! The lip pencil is great if you're starting out with using lip pencils, if only because of their wide variety of shades and inexpensive prices. For beginners, it's always safer to start with a neutral color that matches your lips, which for me, "Peekaboo Neutral" does a fantastic job. Do always remember to put some lip balm underneath, because it can get drying. I love to use it on its own, and topping it with a clear gloss!

Have you tried NYX Slim Lip Pencils? What other colors would you recommend? I'm always on the hunt for more lip pencils to add to my stash!
